Providing mobile ticketing significantly increases customer convenience and yields cost savings in distribution and administration at the venue.

Lusomundo, Portugal’s leading cinema chain, implemented admission terminals for mobile tickets based on Gavitec scanners to provide cinema-goers with quick and easy entrance to theatres.

Project

Lusomundo’s new ticketing service has been initiated by TopSolutions, Gavitec partner and mobile applications provider in Portugal, and is directed at customers of Lusomundo and TMN, Portugal’s largest mobile telecommunications provider.

In addition to purchasing tickets at the box office, movie-goers can obtain tickets through a cash-free web-based transaction, or from special call centers, and receive a mobile ticket per SMS on their mobile phones. Tickets displayed on the phone are read by Gavitec scanners permitting direct access to the cinema without queuing at the box office.

Technology and ticket verification

Tickets are received in an SMS, and give ticket holders exact information on theatre location, name and starting time of the film, and the reserved seat numbers. A 2D code (Data Matrix) on the mobile phone provides information for the admission terminal and ensures that the ticket can only be redeemed by its holder. To gain access, ticket holders simply place the display of their cell phone against the EXIO™ scanner from Gavitec. Without any special effort, the system compares the electronic ticket with the Lusomundo database, where it is verified by GPRS within seconds.

Further applications

Gavitec scanners are ideal for use by mobile phone-based CRM-solutions (ticket, coupon, loyalty card) and payment systems. For example, they can be used as a ticketing solution for events, cinema, transportation or facilities, as well as for mobile couponing applications by retail chains, fast food and other stores.
